5 More Reasons to Love WordPress

Yep you read the post title right, “5 More Reasons to love WordPress” the keyword being more because who out there doesn’t love this wonderful platform. WordPress was orginally released in 2003 as a blogging platform, at the time blogging wasn’t entirely popular but was starting to become a hobby as the internet was on the verge of its grown spurt. Today we are going to take a look at how far WordPress has come and why it is the best platform to not only run a blog on, but an entire website as well.

5. WordPress is Easy to Use!

Out of several CMS (Content Management Systems) I have dealt with I must say by far WordPress is the easiest to install, configure and get up and running, not to mention pick a theme for, it took me less than 30 minutes to get it up and running and have my first post online! WordPress is perfect for bloggers, but it can be themed to run the perfect website that can be literally setup in just a few minutes of your time!

4. Plenty of Plugins!

Plugins.. They are great, in fact without plugins there would be a lot of functionality not available for WordPress… Extra functionality I must mention! Plugins can transform the typical wordpress blog into a fully functional website loaded with features, with over 32 million downloads to date there are plenty of authors publishing plug-ins from contact forms to sharing buttons and much much more!

3. Themes

Not only are there a plethora of plug-ins to choose from but WordPress has a large directory of themes to choose from, you can find premium themes which are paid or you can find a lot of free themes which still look great, even from there you can customize colors, images and other settings. WordPress has the perfect themes for every webmaster/blogger.

2. Easy admin/backend panel

Are you a novice webmaster or new to creating a website? You don’t need to know a whole lot with WordPress, the goal with WordPress is to get the typical user up and blogging/writing in less than an hour, you don’t have to be an expert to have your own website and start sharing the valuable information you know! Simply login, create a new post and publish it when you’re done… It’s really just that easy!

1. Search Engine Friendly!

WordPress is by far the most SEO optimized platform/CMS available. Out of the box wordpress uses the ?p=”post number” urls, this can be changed in the admin menu under settings in just a matter of seconds. There are also plugins you can download for SEO as well as a Google Sitemap plugin which will definitely improve your SEO… WordPress generally ranks higher than websites that aren’t running this wonderful platform.. and after all isn’t more traffic a good thing?

Overview:

You don’t just have to be starting a blog to use WordPress, many websites are using this great CMS even as far as completing recoding the backend  to completely customize there site. WordPress has always been free (opensource) software since its original release. I have tried other CMS such as Joomla, Drupal and Concrete5, they unfortunately just don’t compare to how smooth wordpress operates, not to mention the support behind WordPress is incredible you can find answers for just about any question you have in the forums, and if you have a question that hasn’t already been asked you can simply ask yourself and you will receive answers! I personally love wordpress to mange my own website, check it out!

A quick way to get backlinks friendly

This method is a better way and not considered spam by google team.

Backlink. What is a backlink? . in wikipedia. Backlinks are incoming links to a website or web page. Inbound links were originally important (prior to the emergence of search engines) as a primary means of web navigation; today their significance lies in search engine optimization (SEO). The number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page (for example, this is used by Google to determine the PageRank of a webpage). Outside of SEO, the backlinks of a webpage may be of significant personal, cultural or semantic interest: they indicate who is paying attention to that page.

In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node.Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.

so the meaning of backlinks is very important. but the meaning of backlinks according to me is that blogs are useful to someone and if someone is promoting a blog through our forums, social networking or through his blog. then it is called a backlink.

20 Marvellous methods to get traffic to your blog!

For those who don’t know, traffic is essentially just visitors to your blog. Getting visitors to your blog is the first step to earning money from it! Here’s 20 free ways from http://www.chrismccoy.co.uk to promote your blog and increase its traffic!

1. Post Quality Content. The first and foremost step to getting visitors to your blog is by posting valuable content. Don’t write for computers or search engines, write for humans. People should be able to get a sense of you from your posts and be able to relate. Another tip would be to write content which won’t be outdated next week or next year, so people will still be searching for articles you’ve writtin in 2050.

2. Post Frequently. Posting quality content is great. Posting quality content once a year isn’t. You have to post frequently. Simple as that. Don’t spend all your time writing for your blog though, you need to manage time between making content and marketing content.

3. Submit to search engines This should have been the first thing you do, but if you haven’t already; submit your blog URL to all major search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing etc. If your blog ain’t listed in one of them there search engines you may’s well erase it from internet history.

4. Submit your articles. Another useful way to get people over to your blog is by posting your articles on websites such as Reddit or Digg. Be careful though, you don’t want to submit every single thing you write, only those whimsical ones that stand out. Also, you should encourage others to submit your articles using share buttons, as mentioned below. If you do get your article on the front page of say Digg for example, be sure to follow it up with a few more good posts. You don’t want a surge of viewers on your blog to find out you haven’t updated in a few days.

5. Submit to directories. A blog directory is a database of submitted blogs separated into categories. A quick Google search shows just how many are out there but to get your blog onto one of the more reliable ones, you may have to pay a onetime fee or include a link to the directory on your own blog. One link in return for potential traffic sounds like a good deal to me. For beginners, I’ve found a list of 20 Directories you should submit your blog to, here.

6. Ad/link Sharing. Link sharing involves you advertising or linking another website on your blog, while they link to you on theirs. This method might not be the most effective way to attract new visitors, especially if the ones linking to yours have absolutely nothing in common with your own.

7. Social Networking. Everyone’s a member of at least one social network these days, whether it be Facebook, MySpace or Twitter, it doesn’t matter, you can use any of these to promote your blog. I’ve got almost 500 friends on Facebook which equals 500 potential visitors. Just Link them to your blog in a status or tweet it, but don’t overdo it, you don’t want to scare your friends off with hundreds of links a day.

8. Include share buttons. Some Blogging platforms include this feature but if you want to customize your share buttons, or if you don’t have any at all, I’d recommend AddThis. AddThis allows you to include over 300 share buttons in your post or in your header/footer. I’d recommend including Digg, Del.ic.ous, StumbleUpon, Twitter, Facebook Like, Google +1 and whatever else takes your fancy. This allows readers to easily share your content which hopefully will improve your traffic.

9. Use SEO. Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines. The first thing you can do to improve your page is by using Google Adwords, Keyword Tool. This allows you to record how many times a particular word or phrase is Googled each month, and how other similar keywords compare. You can this use this method to include specific keywords in your text. I’d recommend editing your old posts though because remember, you’re writing for humans not search engines, but this way it will get people to your website where they can read your newest material. Another method is to add Meta Tags to your page, which could hopefully improve your position in a search engine. I’ve found a detailed guide to inserting meta tags here

10. Buy your own domain. Everyone likes free web hosting from blogging platforms like Blogger for instance. Free blog, free templates, easy customizable, just as long as you have .blogspot.com in your URL. To improve your chances of being found in search engines, consider buying your own domain. It’s really easy to redirect your old blog to your new one and sites such as Blogger can still host it for you was well.

11. Include an RRS feed/follow with email. Simple enough, this lets your readers follow you easily. Perhaps have a free newsletter or somethin’?

12. Pray. It’s been proven that praying gives a 10% chance of more visitors*. You can’t argue with the statistics.

13. Include link in emails. Just simply add your blog address to the bottom of your email and any other contact details you feel necessary.

14. Use other forms of media. Heard of Youtube? Try submitting content in the form of a video, just remember to include a link back to your blog. Mention boobs in the title and you’re sure to get a lot of views (and a lot of enemies). Unless your blog actually is about boobs, in which case feel free to link me.

15. Add a Feed counter. A Feed counter shows you and your viewers how many people have signed up to your feed. Don’t put one up straight away, wait till you gain a few hundred and then display it. People are more inclined to subscribe to your feed if there are a lot of other people doing it to, because it lets them know your blog is worth reading and isn’t basically shit.

16. Comment/follow other blogs. You should spend some of your time looking at other blogs, preferably related to your own, and comment or follow them. Make sure you write interesting comments and don’t just spam their box with ‘oh em geeeezzzz hey evryone! why dont ya go on my bolg instead myblogisoarsome.com!!!1!!one! tw@aol.com xxxx’. Do include a link if prompted though.

17. Use Forums. If you’re a frequent member of a particular forum, why not add your site URL to your signature. Again, don’t spam threads, just write as you normally would. This is an easy way to get people visiting your blog.

18. Word of mouth. Get talking, tell all your BFFs about your cracking new blog, tell your postman, your window cleaner, even your friendly neighbourhood Spiderman. Let the world know your blog is the next best thing since Nyan Cat. You could also include it on a business card.

19. I couldn’t think of one for 19.

20. Be annoying. If you really want to improve on those viewing figures you could just go against everything I’ve said and be really annoying. Spam your URL everywhere; social networks, emails, forums, chatrooms, other blogs. Sure you’ll make no friends, but at least three more people are reading your blog each week! *I may have made this up.

If you have any feedback, I’d love to here it, just leave me a comment over on my blog!

Mean Mom’s New Years Eve Washington DC Life, Continued

Continued from the last article about my New Years Eve Washington DC life: It’s halfway through the morning.  Both kids have been diapered and fed, but they are probably working on needing to be diapered again.  Dear husband is most likely still in bed, dreaming about anything other than what I am doing.  I have yet to eat breakfast (or even two seconds to myself, mind you), so I make myself a bowl of cereal and some coffee.

Once I sit down on the couch to eat (eating in the kitchen is not realistic at this point), the toddler is magnetically drawn to my food as if whatever or however much he has already eaten never happened.  Rather than letting him throw a fit and because I am not always a mean mom, I usually share my cereal with him.  Of course, he usually get off the couch and tries to drink my coffee too.  Is it washington d.c. new years eve nap time yet?

Anyway, before I get too far ahead of myself, I will tell you how New Years Eve Washington DC turned out TODAY.  Why I have never thought to do this before, I do not know, but I decided that when my dear husband woke up, I would let him take over with doing what I usually do.  I let him sleep in until his usual 10 a.m. then I told him, “Now that you are awake, I am going upstairs.”  He replied, “Now?  You are going to leave me with the kids as soon as I wake up?”.  “Welcome to my world,” I told him.  “You should be glad that they have already been changed and fed.”

He had nothing to say after that.  I went new year’s eve washington d.c. upstairs.  About thirty minutes later, I went back down to go to the bathroom and get a glass of water.  The baby was fussing for another bottle, the toddler had an almost-nap-time attitude, and my dear husband was in the kitchen making a bottle, looking for Tylenol and something to eat, and complaining about his work schedule and the dishes.

I just went right back upstairs, laughing to myself.  Another hour has passed.  The toddler is fussing in his crib (fighting a nap), the baby is fussing in her Bumbo (she wants a bottle), and my dear husband is watching Yogi Bear and eating pasta salad.  Me?  I am writing this New Years Eve Washington DC article.  The dishes are still dirty, but I am not going to do them this morning because I am letting my dear husband have a taste of what it is like to be me for a morning.
